Bird Photos

Filed under: Birds, photos — Jo @ 7:05 pm

Does anyone know what type of bird this is? It was sitting on our clothes line tonight (still is, I think). My sister took a photo of it. I’d be interested to know exactly what kind of bird it is.

Edit: We’re fairly sure the bird is a Tawny Frogmouth.

And this is a photo of a white cockatoo my sister took one afternoon.

Books and walking

Filed under: guide dog — Jo @ 11:50 am

We walked Cindy to the shops with J and the boys yesterday. We spent a lot of the time in the town square. We went to the library so J could get some videos for the boys. My sister and I borrowed out a few books. My sister got some audio books and I got a normal book. I can read it if I read outside and I don’t read for too long. The text is blurry, but if it’s in a good font and not italics I can work out what the words are. Cindy kept lying down every time I stopped to check out a book. I think she was bored, and figured that if I was just going to keep walking around that room than she might as well have a sleep.

We sat in the park after that so the boys could have a bit of a play and something to eat. My sister and I walked home on our own. We also walked to the post office today to pay some bills. I wish I could get my sister out more often. She’s hardly gone anywhere since she got sick. Cindy loves it when she walks with us.

Our chook has been getting really hungry since she started laying eggs again. She follows us around when we’re downstairs. I think she’s turning into a dog!

The Radio Station

Filed under: Radio, guide dog, vet visits — Jo @ 2:08 pm

You’re now looking at a radio DJ. Almost! I went to the radio station yesterday and today. They showed me how to put playlists together and use the computer to record my voice for intros and fillers. It was pretty cool. They don’t have as many songs as the bigger radio stations would have, but they do have a lot of Australian artists, which is great. Cindy had a good time. She layed down in her corner and didn’t move. She did start to get a bit restless after a couple of hours, so it was lucky I wasn’t going to be there all day. It was fun. I’ll get to listen to lots of different types of music, which is the best thing. I’m crazy about music. I’ll be going back next Friday at 10:00. I’m really looking forward to it.

I took Cindy to the vet today and got her ears checked. The vet said one ear still has a bit of gunk in it. Cindy weighs 30 kg, as well, which means she’s lost weight. She’s been walking a bit more lately, so I’m not surprised. I hope she stays at the weight she is now, because it’s perfect.

Sick puppy dog

Filed under: Books, guide dog — Jo @ 11:34 am

Cindy threw up last night, about three hours after she had her afternoon meal. She was outside, so it was easy to clean up (Mum cleaned it up, actually). I managed to get her to drink a bit of water after she’d had a bit of a rest. She didn’t wake me up during the night.

We went for a walk to the shops this morning. Cindy wasn’t too bad, though she was more distracted than usual. She might have still been feeling a bit off. She was better on the way home. I’m going to have to keep an eye on her today and make sure I take her straight outside if it looks like she might be sick.

I bought the 7th Harry Potter book for my sister. It was only $27. I expected it to be more expensive. I’m going to have to wait for someone to send me an e-text version before I’ll be able to read it. The text is too small for me.

And no spoilers, please. I can’t stand spoilers. I also don’t understand why people want to read the book before the release date. I’d rather get it and enjoy reading it at the same time as everyone else. Part of the fun is waiting for it to come out and speculating on what might happen, and then the excitement when it actually does come out.

The African Children’s Choir and Pictures

Filed under: guide dog, photos — Jo @ 12:22 pm

Cindy had a late night last night. We went to see the African Children’s Choir at the park in the town square. It was already dark when we started walking there. I hate walking on the path behind our house at night, because there’s this thing near the end of the path that’s supposed to stop people from riding bikes on the path, and it’s really hard to get through without bumping into it. There’s no way around it, either. I hate it because at night there’s no way I can see it coming, and it’s a bit of a shock when I bump into it. Cindy was good, anyway. She seems to work better at night than she does during the day.

The performance was good. There were a lot of people there. The people who were selling food ran out of food because they hadn’t anticipated so many people to turn up. We sat down on a blanket. Mum, B and P stood up most of the time because they wanted to see it. I don’t think they had much luck with that. Too many tall people in the way. :) A few people had dogs there. Cindy didn’t worry too much about them. We ended up going to a less crowded spot during a break and Cindy relaxed a bit. She wasn’t happy that she was out past her bed time. She hopped up a couple of times wanting to go home. I took her harness and everything off and wrapped her in the blanket and she was a bit happier. The performance went from 7:30 to 9:00. It was pretty good. The kids had a lot of energy and their singing was good.

Cindy was very happy when we finally got home. I put her straight to bed. She slept in this morning. I had to go shopping today and I decided to leave Cindy at home so she could have more of a sleep. We went into Rockmans and I got a skirt and a shirt. We had coffee with my aunt and then did the grocery shopping. Cindy said hello to me when I got back, and is now ignoring me. She wasn’t happy that I went without her.

I made a CD of photos for Cindy’s puppy raisers. I put it in a DVD case and made a cover. I also messed around with a few photos while I was doing it.
